Visual Design

Visual Design for the web is all about keeping up with design trends, coming up with good graphic design concepts, understanding how color theory affects us psychologically, knowing how to use typography, illustration and photographs to communicate what the client wants, understanding and sticking to the brand. It involves keeping a balance between subtle graphic design, usability and accessibility, and keeping up to date with the software and other tools that can help get our ideas up on the web. A thorough understanding of CSS, HTML and a little Javascript is also essential for creating great designs.

Clare and Edo's Wedding

My good friends Clare and Edo got married one year ago and these are some screenshots from the web site I designed for them as a wedding gift. They already knew the colors of the wedding — beige and orange. The colors are very specific and they wanted their web site to match their invitations.

Clare and Edo were extremely easy to work with. Do not always believe the hype regarding working for friends and family. Some are much better to work for than others.

California State University, Long Beach (CSULB)

Over the course of seven years as a web designer for CSULB I have designed and built many web sites. These are some of my favorite designs.

SURF (Students Understanding Research Fundamentals)

This was a very exciting project to work on. Two very dedicated professors from CSULB library worked long hours on the content for this very successful educational tool. The site guides freshmen through the research fundamentals teaching and testing them about how to avoid plagiarism. There are four different sections; each with it's own individual theme. I designed all of the characters, icons, graphics and built the pages in HTML using Dreamweaver templates. This site was built right before we started using CSS as heavily as we do now. All of these pages were designed to expand up to a certain width so where you see border made of cowry beads, that box can stretch out sideways and the beads never get broken.

Web Development Center

We decided to go with a spaceship launch idea for this site. After all, we launch web sites.
